The prolonged turbulence in the world order driven by shifting geopolitics, has given countries and their leaders enough evidence that dominance no longer works in today's era  whether it is the Ukraine-Russia conflict, the US-Israel-Iran conflict or China's pursuit of expanding its sphere of influence.

History offers strong evidence of how even a slight weakness in a dominant power can lead to the collapse of its entire empire.

The British Empire, the Roman Empire, and the Mongols all operated on a model of dominance they extracted resources, imposed rule and suppressed dissent. 

Even the most dominant leaders eventually met collapse by their own people.

Today's dominant powers are trying to shape world order through war, tariffs, and even control of technology to dominate others and this is breeding long-term uncertainty that ripples through economies, trade, inflation and even people as no country is truly isolated anymore due to globalization. 

Modern global trade is the ultimate collaborative network and it needs to stay that way.

Even the allies of dominant powers across the Middle East and the EU have gathered enough evidence to erode their trust in and reliance on the dominator and are now shifting gears rapidly.

Ukraine and Iran have shown the world that determination outlasts power, no matter how strong the dominator is. When people are determined to fight for survival, they will do whatever it takes to the very last breath  and history shows that this kind of resolve wins over dominance in the long run.

Leaders who grasp this early will become collaborators. I already see signs that the Ukraine-Russia conflict could settle in the near term perhaps within the next six months and the one playing the role of peacemaker is not a dominator but a collaborator. You can probably guess recent remarks from External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar point clearly in that direction.

Some dominators, however will never grasp this, because to them, settlement looks like weakness. This is the dominance model: "I win only if you lose."

Even today, I wonder why Iran's leader was killed when he was already well into his later years to rest in peace a time when a natural transition of power, paired with continued diplomacy, could have resolved the long-running conflict on its own. Wouldn't the next leader would be better chance at negotiation as diplomacy was already running for long with current leader but without any break through ?

But someone's ego and a desire for revenge, dragged the dominator further into conflict instead. 

Now Iran has even more evidence to tell its neighbors and world why they should become collaborators moving past religious differences and conflicts rather than trusting a dominator for their security and development.

The tectonic plates of power are shifting. The old playbook of zero-sum dominance is failing. We are entering an era of entangled complexity, where trades, systems, technologies, economies and societies are so deeply interconnected no single nation can solve problems alone hence the most successful nations will be those that master the art of collaboration. 

Power is no longer defined by how much you can control, but by how many you can connect with.

The future of trade is not about tariffs, creating blocks for resources or be total self-sufficiency it is about interoperability.

The countries that thrive will be the ones that sign free trade agreements, harmonize regulations, and let capital, ideas, tech and talent flow freely.

Today, AI is being led by dominant powers so what happens when a dominator uses it as a weapon to impose rules and dictate terms ? Many world leaders has recognized this risk and want AI to flourish collaboratively, through open standards that ensure safety and equitable access.

Are there new housing developments ? Count the cranes this is a classic economic sign.

Check the new projects: are they marked "Sold Out" or are they empty ?

India stands at a fascinating crossroads. We are the world's fifth-largest economy, a nuclear power, one of leader in space technology, and home to some of the brightest minds on the planet. Yet, step out onto any Indian street, and a different reality confronts you garbage strewn across roads, traffic chaos at every intersection, public spaces vandalized, and a general disregard for shared community assets. This gap between our economic ambition and our everyday behavior is what we call the civic sense deficit and it may be the single biggest bottleneck to India's next leap forward.

Let's be honest about where we stand. Civic sense in India today is largely reactive rather than proactive, and personal rather than collective.

This isn't because Indians are inherently uncivil. The roots run deeper:

1. Colonial legacy of distrust: For centuries, public property was seen as "government property" something to exploit, not protect.
2. Rapid urbanization: Our cities grew faster than our civic institutions could keep up. Millions moved from villages to cities without a corresponding shift in mindset.
3. Weak enforcement: When rules exist but aren't enforced consistently, they become optional.
4. The "chalta hai" attitude: A cultural tolerance for mediocrity that normalizes the abnormal.

• Traffic flows smoothly not because of traffic police at every corner, but because citizens choose to follow rules.
• Public spaces are pristine because people carry their trash home or to the nearest bin, treating shared spaces as extensions of their own homes.

• Water and electricity are conserved because citizens see themselves as stakeholders, not just consumers.
• Strangers help each other whether it's giving directions, assisting the elderly, or reporting a crime.

Countries like Japan, Singapore, and parts of Europe demonstrate that high civic sense is achievable.

India's demographic dividend 65% of our population under 35 is often cited as our greatest economic asset. But a young population without civic sense is a liability, not an asset. It leads to congestion, conflict, and chaos. The same youth, imbued with civic consciousness, can become the engine of a truly developed India.

The question isn't whether India can afford to invest in civic sense. The question is whether we can afford not to. Every rupee saved from a prevented accident, every hour reclaimed from traffic chaos, every tourist who chooses India over another destination, every investor who stays because the system works these are the dividends of civic virtue.

A nation's greatness is measured not just by the skyscrapers it builds, but by the respect its citizens show to the spaces they share.
